Interdisciplinary team
The Speech and Writing Centre introduced the interdisciplinary team function to the private sector. A full team of specialized scientists collaborate, analyze, propose, co-decide on the design of the treatment program and evaluation of the therapeutic outcome. The aim is to synthesize views through maintaining role diversity. The interdisciplinary team meets fortnightly. The child psychiatrist is the responsible physician of the center and is in charge of the final diagnosis.
Rules of operation
There are internal rules of operation that precisely describe the style, the system of rules and the compositional practices through which the multifaceted scientific approaches complement each other.
Principles and methods
The principle of the center is to avoid as far as possible unnecessary and costly evaluative examinations and lengthy and tedious scientific assessments. We aim for the essence which for us is personal communication with the health and education stakeholders.
The most reliable therapeutic methods are applied, which are different in each department. Methods that are proven to be effective are selected and applied in appropriately designed areas. They are based on the principles of structured education (teacch), alternative methods of communication (makaton, pecs) and the principles of sensory integration.
Our principle is to follow scientific developments and we are open to new data. Each new method is evaluated and integrated into the scientific profile of the company if its effectiveness is ensured and it can fit into the structure of the center.
In the speech and learning departments, in addition to the assessment tests and therapeutic methods that are available, the “Speech and Writing” centers have created, through the needs that have arisen over the years, their own rich material which numbers many volumes and is not available on the market.
The educational objectives are specific, short-term and achievable. They are set on the basis of the diagnosis, the child’s potential, age, the area of intervention, new scientific methods, the development of technology and the effective use of knowledge in everyday life. We are aware that children themselves differentiate and we focus first on fostering a relationship with them and then on the method we choose to apply.
Continuous education
The therapists of the “Speech and Writing” center have attended specialized seminars and conferences in Greece and abroad in their areas of expertise.
